Press Release

Ljubljana, Thursday, 20 June 2019 – SIJ Group’s electronic application Minute for Safety received a bronze award for the best innovation by the Central Slovenia Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia. The application enables SIJ Group’s employees to co-create safer conditions at work and gives them an incentive to put more effort into controlling the production process with one common goal – zero accidents at work.

As a specialised producer of steel for niche markets, SIJ Group considers the search for new solutions essential for its profitability, competitive strength and ability to meet the requirements of customers, who are always looking for newer and better solutions. At the same time, it leads to innovations. Due to the high average age of employees, work intensity in the industry, and managing sick leaves and work accidents, they give special attention to measures regarding safety at work and health protection.

This is why since 2016 they have been running the communication campaign Working Safely, Staying Healthy through which they support systemic measures for ensuring safety at work with communication. In 2018 they added a unified electronic application for implementing the safety protocol Minute for Safety. The preventive protocol is implemented at the start of each shift in six production companies in SIJ Group. “With this application we can better monitor and analyse the situation, encourage employees to submit proposals for increasing safety, and prepare appropriate measures. At the same time the application eliminates the problems with the so-far unstandardized implementation of the protocol, updated information, two-way communication, and motivation for submitting proposals and escalating issues. This way we ensure better traceability, monitoring of implementation, monitoring of the response by the persons responsible, and analysis, so we can more efficiently pursue the goal of managing the production process with the target of zero accidents at work,” Katja Krumpak, head of campaign Working Safely, Staying Healthy, presented the advantages of the application.

At today's award ceremony for best innovations organised by CCIS (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia) – regional chamber for Central Slovenia –, SIJ Group received a bronze award.

In addition to today’s bronze, the regional CCIS chambers for Koroška and Gorenjska also recognised the innovativeness of SIJ Group companies – SIJ Metal Ravne received two gold and one silver award, and SIJ Acroni and SIJ Ravne Systems each took home a silver award. Both gold innovations from Koroška will compete for an award on a national level. This is also the first time SIJ Group will be in the running for a special award for an innovation created in co-operation between the business sector and a research organization, a knowledge institution.
